Positive Peer Influence

Perhaps the greatest benefit of recovery housing is that it provides the opportunity for positive peer interaction. Many of those who work in recovery housing have overcome addiction themselves, putting them in the perfect position to provide support and sympathy to those undergoing treatment. Most importantly, they show others that recovery is possible—a source of inspiration that can make all the difference.

Accountability

Enrollment in recovery housing causes participants to become more fully accountable for their own actions. Learning to live with rules and consequences encourages healthy living patterns that will carry over to re-engaging with society.

Structure

One of the primary advantages of recovery housing is that it provides a clean, structured living environment for those trying to achieve sobriety. Residents are given a set of rules to live by as well as the ability to assist with chores and participate in house meetings. This creates a healthy living routine that will make it easier to stick with a recovery plan when they transition out of the program.
